British doctors say no to Tamiflu for healthy kids

British doctors say Tamiflu should not be given to children suffering from flu because it does little good and increases vomiting and other side effects.
A study published Monday in the medical journal BMJ says Tamiflu can reduce the course of flu in children by up to a day and a half. But it says the drug has little or no effect on complications including asthma attacks, ear infections or bacterial infections.
The researchers from Oxford University say they aren't sure how relevant their results are to the current swine flu pandemic.
The World Health Organization recommends that Tamiflu, made by Switzerland's Roche Group, should be reserved for flu sufferers who also are dealing with other medical conditions such as pregnancy, diabetes or respiratory problems.
